Jumping Into January Ollie’s Holidays!
Ollie’s Holidays are an unofficial tradition in Moonwater Meadow I’d like to share with you. Every month features a few special holidays I invented to celebrate fun things. I write a bunch down, my friends vote for their favorites and we put them on the calendar. Maybe we should tell everyone else in town about them because we always get strange looks on Wear Your Underwear Outside Your Pants Day.
I also realize I should have mentioned this at the start of the month but I forgot. Haw! There’s always next month.
January 1st – Start Your Resolutions Day
This is the day everyone makes promises to do stuff they didn’t do last year but really wanted to do. The failure rate on this is greater than the rate of failed rocket tests in Moonwater Labs (which is tough to do).
January 2nd – National Science Fiction Day
A day to celebrate all things sci-fi and geeky. Made to coincide with the birthday of one of Sci-Fi’s greatest authors, Isaac Asimov. I can’t pronounce his name so I haven’t read any of his books yet. Have you?
January 7th – Wear A Cape Everywhere Day
Bring your inner super hero out today by taping a towel (or a real cape) around your neck and standing with your hands on your hips. Everywhere. All day. It’s more fun than you think. This works especially well in crowded elevators, waiting on long lines or standing on street corners. Bonus points for wearing your cape standing at your seat in the movies or on line at the donut shop.
January 17th – Comfy Cozy Fire Day
A day of quiet reflection with a comfy blankie and a book. It helps if all your friends are around to help share those pizzas you had delivered.
January 23rd – -Defend Your Snow Fort Day
We get pretty good snowstorms in the Meadow during January so this is an essential day. After you spend all week after school building your super-fun snow fort you’ll have to defend it against your friends who sneak attack while you’re inside your fort watching TV.
Next month we’ll have a whole new batch of Ollie’s Holidays for you. Stay tuned!
