Happy October 2018!
Ahoy there everyone and Happy October!
It’s a brand new day of a brand new month. Sometimes I call it Bug-tober. Get it?? Haw!
This is my favorite time of year. It gets chilly out which means I get to wear comfy sweaters and have apple spider, I mean cider. Here are some fun facts about October:
Here are some fun and interesting factoids
(most of which I did not know) about my favorite month…
- It is associated with the season of autumn in the Northern hemisphere and with spring in the Southern hemisphere. I can’t imagine celebrating spring in Australia! Haw!
- October’s birth flower is the calendula, or marigold. They go great in salads, too!
- This month’s birth stones are the tourmaline and opal.
Some notable national and international celebrations are:
- National Pizza Month
- National Popcorn Poppin’ Month
- National Cookie Month
- National Chili Month
- National Dessert Month….seriously, a bug could get fat with all this stuff going on here…!
- World Space Week is celebrated October 4th through the 10th. Since its United Nations declaration in 1999, World Space Week has grown into the largest public space event on Earth. More than 3,700 events in 80 countries celebrated the benefits of space and excitement about space exploration in 2017. The 2018 theme is “Space Unites The World” and 2019 theme “The Moon: Gateway to the Stars.”
Directly related to World Space Week:
- October 4th, 1957 was the launch date of Sputnik I, the first human-made Earth satellite. It looks a little like me only not. Heh.
- Astronomy Day is on the 13th. This is the day we’re all allowed to stay up late in the observatory. Telescopes ahoy!!
- This month’s Full Moon, the Full Hunter’s Moon, rises on Wednesday, October 24, at 12:45 P.M. EDT. Little known fact: the Hunter’s Moon looks like my nose when I have a cold.
- Oktoberfest is celebrated as the world’s largest Volksfest (beer festival and travelling funfair) held annually in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. This is when mama lets us have root beer for two weeks straight or until someone throws up. Whichever comes first.
On This Day In October:
- On the 1st, Comfy Blankie Season starts.
- On the 6th, Spooky Castle Explorer Bot Invention Day.
- On the 20th, Share Your Cider With A Spider Day. 🙂
- On the 27th, Annual Moonwater Weekend Before Halloween Party Marathon!
- And of course, Halloween is on the 31st! :)))
